DESCRIPTION;ALTREP="CID:<event_@www.mgksiegen.de>":THU. 9.2. 6 pm\nFrancis
Bacon as a Rubens Prize Winner\nLecture and talk with curator Ines Rütting
er\n\nFrancis Bacon is considered one of the most important representation
al painters of the 20th century. In his works\, he dealt primarily with th
e depiction of the deformed human body in narrow\, sometimes even interloc
king spaces. Bacon is especially known for his paintings of popes and port
raits of his closest friends. His sometimes grotesque figures and daring d
epictions are charged with emotion. Bacon did not work with models or in f
ront of originals\, but with photographs or illustrations in books and mag
azines or other material. Even the painting of Pope Innocent X by Diego Ve
lázquez\, which he dealt with intensively in his own work\, the artist nev
er saw in the original\, but always worked from a black and white image.\n
\nThe lecture deals with the life and work of Francis Bacon\, the third Ru
bens Prize winner of the city of Siegen\, and his works contained in the L
ambrecht-Schadeberg Collection. Only recently\, the 1963 oil painting 'Tur
ning Figure' found its way into the exhibition rooms of MGKSiegen. The stu
diolo 'Francis Bacon\, In the Mirror of Photography'\, which presents the
new acquisition and thus the seventh painting in the collection\, is curre
ntly not on view due to the reconstruction of the second floor for the pur
pose of the new exhibition 'New Discoveries'. With the opening on 17.2.23\
, the entire second floor and thus also the works of Bacon in the Studiolo
will be on view again until 26.3.23.\n\nTicket included in admission pric
 e. In German spoken language.\n\n \n
