Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection

Painting between figuration and abstraction

Works from the Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection

Cy Twombly, Leda and the Swan, 1963, Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection, MGKSiegen, © Cy Twombly Foundation, New York

For a long time, figuration and abstraction were seen as mutually exclusive paths to modern art. However, the works of the Rubens Prize winners show that figuration and abstraction do not contradict each other, but rather inspire each other - or the paintings completely elude the categories of figurative and non-figurative.

The focus of the presentation is on works by Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Hans Hartung, Giorgio Morandi, Cy Twombly and Fritz Winter. With this first change of presentation within the Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection, works that were previously not accessible to the public will also be shown.
