Gregor Schneider

Photography and Sculpture

In 2001, Gregor Schneider was awarded the coveted Golden Lion for his contribution “Totes Haus u r” (Dead House u r) in the German pavilion at the Venice Biennale. He had transferred the entire interior of “Haus u r” – his parents' vacant apartment building, which he has been continuously renovating since 1985 – to the German pavilion.

Gregor Schneider's exhibition in Siegen shows that the “Haus u r” remains the center and source of his work. It features photographs of the rooms showing, for example, the process of construction and dismantling, as well as sculptures that may have previously been part of the room installations. In addition, Schneider has created two new rooms for Siegen in which he once again takes up the themes of duplication, original and copy, truthfulness and deception.
