MGKSiegen ON TOUR

To mark its 25th anniversary and the start of the final construction phase of its new extension, the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen will be going on tour, starting in October. Due to extensive construction and renovation work, the museum will be temporarily closed as from September 28. Under the motto MGKSiegen ON TOUR the museum will use this necessary closure period to relocate its activities to other places throughout the city and region.

The exhibition project 25 Years, 25 Works will be continued and expanded into public spaces. MGKSiegen has developed a wide-ranging programme for its time on tour. The programme will showcase artworks and collections while placing a particular emphasis on collaboration and exchange through temporary exhibitions, events, workshops, discussions and digital formats.

At the heart of the initiative lies the concept of an open museum fostering new connections. The project brings together long standing-partners, as well as numerous initiatives with which the MGKSiegen is collaborating for the first time. To encourage participation, the programme was developed in advance in collaboration with participants and the museum team for each specific location. The MGKSiegen studio will also continue to be used for educational and outreach programmes. There will be some venues featuring events held on specific days. At other locations, however, there will be permanent exhibitions on display. Access to these programmes will vary in a similar way. While most events are open to the public, some are being conceived for specific target audiences.

Invitations to public events will always be issued in good time via newsletter and through the museum’s social media channels.
