MGKSiegen ON TOUR

To mark its 25th anniversary year and the start of the final construction phase of the new expansion, the Museum für Gegenwartkunst Siegen (MGKSiegen) will go on tour starting in October. Due to extensive construction and renovation work, the museum will be temporarily closed starting September 28.

The museum will use this necessary closure period to relocate its activities to other locations throughout the city and region under the motto “MGKSiegen ON TOUR.” The exhibition project “25 Years, 25 Works” will be expanded into public spaces and continued. MGKSiegen is embarking on a very special programme. Through temporary exhibitions, events, workshops, discussions and digital formats, artworks and collections — as well as the collaborations themselves — will be showcased.

At the heart of the initiative lies the concept of an open museum that fosters new connections. Participants include long-standing partners, as well as many initiatives with which the MGKSiegen is collaborating for the first time. To encourage participation, the programme was developed in advance in collaboration with participants and the museum team for each specific location. The MGKSiegen studio will also continue to be used for educational programmes. There will be stops featuring events held on specific days. At other locations, however, there will be permanent exhibitions on display. The same applies to access to these programmes. Most events are open to the public. Meanwhile, permanent exhibitions will be presented at other venues. The same applies to the museum’s programs. Most events are open to the public, though some are designed for specific target audiences.

All tour locations, as well as a continuously updated program, are available on the website mgksiegen.de. All partnerships are presented there, and reports on the individual events will be posted afterward. Invitations to public events are always sent out in a timely manner via newsletter and through the museum’s social media channels.
