Performance Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure

In connection with the closing of the exhibition “der Legende nach,” a performance by Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure will take place on Sunday, September 27, at 12 pm. 

Informed by the 1960s notebooks of Yvonne Rainer, whose work “Trio A” is part of the exhibition as well, Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure explores different possibilities of transmission in her sound performance “2. The word is more powerful than the leg.” Incorporating text from former collaborations with Hannah Black and Korakrit Arunanondchai, the artist negotiates wording and the structuring of words through methods of quoting and sampling, repeating and rephrasing.

Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure is a composer, DJ, and theater maker whose practice unfolds at the intersection of embodied knowledge and critical theory. Guided by a curiosity for how systems of violence interlock with the textures of everyday life, her work explores the shifting degrees of legibility that shape our gazes, and the possibility of imagining otherwise. Her works, performances and DJ sets have been presented at MoMA PS1, Centre Pompidou, ICA London and Miami, Berghain, Chisenhale Gallery, MCBA Museum, Arsenic Theatre, Tanzhaus Zürich, Gessnerallee, Friart Kunsthalle, Horst Festival, Bossa Nova Civic Club NYC, Hartwig Foundation, Bangkok CityCity Gallery, and NON NON NON Club, among others.

Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure was invited by Clara Maria Blasius and Paula Thomaka, curators of the exhibition “der Legende nach”.
