The artist was born in the Cuban city of Sancti Spíritus in 1970, where he was also brought up. He has lived in Düsseldorf since early 2000. His artistic practice began in Cuba as co-founder of the artist collective OAC (Ordo Amoris Cabinet) in 1994. This group of artists and designers focused on repurposing everyday objects. Hernández’s playfully poetic approach, which relies on improvisation and the chance discovery of diverse constellations, has led to a unique personal iconography.
